JAZZ MANOUCHE: The Art of Accompaniment

Hyperhip Media

When picking up an acoustic guitar, many players are drawn into playing Django-style rhythm. The fast chord changing gypsy jazz technique is also known as 'jazz manouche' and holding down this steady solid rhythm provides an amazing foundation for other players to solo over. This tutorial DVD is not heavy on theory but instead it concentrates on putting rhythm straight into action. Swing, upstrokes, downstrokes, right hand, accenting, fingering and chord shapes, it's all beautifully shown and it can be done on any style of guitar. With three students present, you are able to feel part of a class rather than just you and the master, and this helps with your own confidence as you learn with them rather than being overwhelmed by expertise. The Am6 chord is used extensively and as it neatly avoid open strings the shape proves very useful indeed. If you have any interest at all in gypsy jazz and love those old 'Hod Club' recordings by Reinhardt and Grappelli, this one is a real must. ****
